Pages & parts visibility based on Visitor tags
Pages and page parts come with advanced visibility settings. Here you find options about indexing of the page and date settings to control when the content should be visible or not. Within the advanced visibility panel, there is also the option to control which pages and page parts are visible based on visitor tags.
For websites with integrated visitor accounts or a single sign on (SSO) via the ticketing system account, Visitor tags attached to a visitor can be used to show personalised content in this way. This works great for known friends or donors, but what if specific visitors need access to hidden content without having an account? Or what if your website doesn’t have a log-in feature for visitors to log in?
How Passwords work with Visitor tags
This feature enables visitors to obtain a temporary visitor tag by simply unlocking it with a password on the website. No account or login is needed, and the visitor tag will be active during the browsing session. It will be removed as soon as the session ends. This works for all CultureSuite websites.
How to set up a Password to unlock a visitor tag
Scenario: You want to hide a Page or page part from general view and only give access to specific visitors by sending them a password.
Step 1: Add a Password to a Visitor tag
- Go to Marketing > Visitor tags module in the CMS.
- Open any existing visitor tag, or create a new one. Note: If your website doesn’t have a log in feature, you probably have no visitor tags at all, so just create a new one.
- Add a name for the visitor tag
- Choose source = website
- Check the box Enabled - this makes sure the tag will work. Disable it if it is no longer needed.
- Add the Password that is needed to activate the Visitor tag
Step 2: Add the Password part to any page
- In your CMS, go to any page where you want to hide content behind the password field
- Select the part you want to hide (or create a new part), and add the visitor tag in the advanced visibility section of the part.
- Select Add a new part
- Select the Visitor tag via password page part from the list
- Check the web page and make sure the password field is visible.
The password field will show up on the page only when there is hidden content based on a visitor tag that has a password configured, so make sure your page contains at least one part with hidden content.
- Fill in the password. Notice that the password field is gone and is now replaced with the hidden content.

- Verify if you received the visitor tag in your special access pop-up window
Step 3 (optional): Hide some more content
- go to the advanced visibility settings on any page or page part and use the visitor tag to manage the visibility of your content.
Tips
- The password part doesn’t only show the hidden part on the specific page where you placed it, it can also unlock several other pages that are hidden based on the same visitor tag.
- You can even create a special landing page for the password, hidden for visitors and search engines by placing the part on a page that isn’t indexed.
- You can then use the hidden page part to show links to all password protected pages from this main page after the password is filled in.
- The password part will work for any visitor tag that has a password. Every visitor tag can be set to unlock different pages or page parts.
- You can use multiple password parts on different areas of your website.
- The visitor tag that is temporarily activated after filling in the correct password can also give access to more than page content. You can even manage a presale, using the visitor tag pre-sale dates to give early access to any group of events. More info in Managing onsales: A user Guide
