Our approach to UX & UI Design

Introduction

We believe that intuitive and engaging design is crucial for empowering cultural organisations to thrive, and we're committed to continuously improving our platform to meet their evolving needs, be it our website, mailing tool, order flow and even the CMS itself.

Our vision for UX and UI

Our vision is to create a simple and intuitive platform the cultural sector that works for users of all abilities. Balancing complex processes with simple to use interfaces. We aim to prioritise accessibility and usability ensuring an inclusive set of tools for managing events as well as purchasing them. Our aspiration is not just to meet core user needs and functionality, but exceed them, inspiring audiences and bringing delight.

Our current key features

Here are some of the core UI & UX features that we currently offer in the Peppered platform

Our flexible parts library built for the arts and culture sector

We offer a range of drag-and-drop parts to make up your content. These have a range of variations and options to help tell your story, creating captivating events and stories to support your mission.

A range of flexible parameters

We support further customisation of these parts through our parameters, adjust how they look and behave. Changing things like styling, animations, positions and functionality.

Bespoke CMS Design

We’ve designed and built our own dedicated CMS from the ground up. Made specifically for the arts and culture sector, it’s designed to solved the most frequent challenges faced by the sector. With powerful scheduling features, and event management baked in.

Features we are currently working on

We are actively developing the following features to further enhance your experience:

New look and feel dashboard

We’re working iteratively through the dashboard module-by-module, bringing a new look and feel, alongside numerous UX improvements. From smaller optimisations such as improved data tables, through to larger features such as a new home experience, and slide out drawer panels for faster tweaks. We’re seeking user feedback with each iteration and seeking to build upon this in an agile fashion.

Wayfinding

We’re creating an all new product to help audiences navigate your venue. Our wayfinding module will sync your current events and halls and provides directions to locations throughout your venue using digital signage.

Order flow

We’re also finalising our new look integrated order flow, which includes numerous optimisations, including a cleaner look and feel, more prominent upsell opportunities and more flexibility to introduce your branding more prominently. This is also supported by some general best practice e-commerce improvements around layout and styling. This is due to be available as a prototype to test with current order flow users shortly.

Peppered design system

We’re rolling out a new design system that will bring a fresh, more flexible experience to our user interface. By evolving how styling works behind the scenes, we’re making it easier to introduce new features, improve accessibility, and refine the overall look and feel. Over time, this will also open up new opportunities for customisation, giving you more control over how Culture suite can help you to reflect your unique identity—without adding complexity.

New queueing experience

We’re developing an overhauled queue experience for our users, bringing with it better expectations for users. Including information around their position, expected waiting time and audio prompts for when they’re at the front of the queue.

A more flexible events category and tagging solution

We’re investigating ways tags can be styled more consistently, and how they can be used more effectively for things like accessibility, movie appropriate warnings, and general tags. In turn allowing users to better use these to filter events, e.g. “I want to see all closed caption performances”.

A more consistent productions layout

We’re also looking to how the way we show instances across regular events, cinema events and theatre events. This will allow for more flexibility and a cleaner layout for how we see our users with events spanning multiple locations, or with differing tags handling their production pages.

Features we are keeping our eye on

These are features we're actively researching and considering for future development. We believe these have the potential to significantly benefit our users, but we're still in the process of evaluating their feasibility and prioritising them within our roadmap. We welcome your feedback on these ideas!

Task-driven dashboard experience

We’re discussing how to make the dashboard more user-centred. The idea of the dashboard being less module-driven, and more task driven based on the most common tasks users face, we’re still in the research phase for this. Are there any particular tasks you find difficult to complete? Let us know!

New dashboard homepage

We’re also looking at how the homepage can summarise more useful information and time-sensitive actions for our users, e.g. queue statistics and the latest edited content. We’d love to hear any ideas you have around this.

A new homepage parts builder experience

We’re investigating how to bring more flexibility to users wanting to edit the homepage, in effect allowing it to be edited like any other regular page with our drag-and-drop editor.

Overhauled media gallery

The media gallery has grown exponentially over the years, and the design team are looking at how best this can be utilised going forward, splitting out card layouts from media layouts and giving cards their own functionality.
